Introduction

My name is Erwin Hines,  I am an artist, designer, and creative director. Throughout my career, I have increasingly focused on doing work that fosters empathy and inclusivity across all disciplines. I’ve had the opportunity to lead the creation of industry-defining work for companies such as GOOGLE, COACH, BEATS BY DRE, UNDER ARMOR, WEBBYS', AMAZON and more. Through these experiences I saw firsthand how the artifacts we create help shape people's perception of the world as well as their place within the world. This is why I am focused on using the toolset of design to put forward work that can help shape a more equitable environment.

2023 Snapshot

My primary focus for the past three years has been designing opportunities for positive social change through the creation of experiences that embrace foster authentic community and empathy. My work in this space has fully embraced a cross disciplinary workflow and sought to examine the human experience while simultaneously providing opportunity for healing and growth. At the start of 2023 I organically began diving deeper into this mission - which took me to a creative expression that was a blend of urban planning, brand building, activism, graphic design, and event design - which i’ve come to learn is Placemaking. While I did some creative direction and design work for a few clients like Nike, E-bay, and Graphis in 2023, this year in review is focused on projects associated with the creation of place. Placemaking: A participatory process for shaping public space that harnesses the ideas and assets of the people who occupy it. Placemaking is a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces. Placemaking capitalizes on a local community's assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that improve urban vitality and promote people's health, happiness, and well-being.
